Kate Beckinsale, the Chiswick born film and TV actor, returned home from Los Angeles this Monday (29 July) for a late birthday lunch with her mother Judy Loe.
Rather than one of the more upmarket restaurants in the area such as La Trompette or Rock and Rose, the 51-year-old best known globally for her role in the Underworld series, chose to visit Nandos for some peri peri chicken.
The family have had a difficult time this year following a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis for Judy Loe and the death this January of Roy Battersby, the TV director, who was Kate’s step-father. Her parents, who had both been seriously ill for much of last year, had been living in Los Angeles with her to allow her to help care for them.
She posted photos of the day out together on her Instagram account showing them both in high spirits. Wearing a floral summer dress contrasted with knee-high black platform boots she filmed herself crossing the High Road in front of Fudges Cycles.
The pair also made a trip to Marks and Spencer after which she posted ‘Going round Chiswick with my mama makes my solar plexus relax- also we got Quavers and Skips- look out America.'

What was clearly an enjoyable day out was slightly marred when they returned to the car park near Nandos to find a Penalty Charge Notice on Judy Loe’s car.

Kate was born in Chiswick on 26 July 1973 and was aged five at the time of the death of her father Richard Beckinsale, who played Lenny Godber in the prison based comedy TV show Porridge. She attended Godolphin and Latymer School and was an active member of the Orange Tree Theatre.
