This week, I attended a parliamentary reception for the organisation In the Drink to mark the launch of their new legislation proposal to ban single-use plastic cups. The organisation aims to reduce plastic waste in our waterways, and they have been active in clean ups by the riverside in Hammersmith and Chiswick.

The Justice Committee met on Tuesday afternoon to hear evidence on the work of the parole board. Committee members were joined by Cecilia French, Chief Executive, and Alexandra Marks, Chair-Designate of the Parole Board. I was very grateful to our witnesses for their time in Committee – especially in the very hot weather.

I had further discussions this week with Post Office Ltd about the reopening of Chiswick post office. I am reassured that the post office is viable and that there is no problem finding someone to run it, but outstanding matters are still yet to be finalised. It is a question of when not if it reopens and I have a scheduled call each week to chase progress.

On Wednesday afternoon I spoke in the Westminster Hall debate on the displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank. There has been much focus on Gaza lately, and rightly so, due to the atrocities happening there, but we must not forget what is happening in the West Bank. You can read my full speech here.

I was delighted to visit Strand on the Green Junior School on Friday afternoon. It was great to be a guest at their assembly and talk to the children about my role as an MP and how Parliament works. Afterwards I met with staff and heard more about the school and the activities and projects they have going on there – a Friday well spent.

The Metropolitan Police have recently launched ‘Met Engage’, which is a new way for Londoners to receive updates from local officers. Officers will use the platform to keep communities updated on local incidents and investigations and to provide crime prevention advice and information. You can sign up to receive updates and find out more information here

This weekend I am looking forward to attending the Christ Church summer fair and if any Chiswick constituents are attending; you may see me there!

Best wishes,

Andy

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
