There has been a serious incident on Sutton Court Road this Friday evening (9 August) involving an E3 bus at around 4.48pm.

While it was travelling southbound between the junctions with Wavendon Avenue and Barrowgate Road it appears to have mounted the pavement.

The bus continued along the footway for some time knocking over a lamppost before hitting a car and a tree. The car, which was parked in the front driveway of a house was knocked into a wall. One woman said she had to dive behind a car to get out of the way of the oncoming bus.

There is an unconfirmed report that the bus swerved to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road. It is not known how many people were on the bus but a crowd of around fifty people were present in the immediate aftermath.

A local resident heard the crash and rushed out to see what had happened and saw the driver in his cab in a dazed condition. Along with another passerby, he managed to find the kill switch for the engine. Later one person was observed being taken to an ambulance on a gurney.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said, “We sent multiple resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, incident response officers and members of our hazardous area response team (HART)

“The first paramedic arrived in less than one minute.

“We treated seven people at the scene and took one patient to hospital.”

The police have confirmed that the bus driver was injured but that his condition is not life-threatening.
