A visualisation of the new car park design from documents submitted with the application
April 4, 2024
A planning application (P/2024/0924) has been received for changes to the exterior of the multi-storey car park on Brentford High Street.
Permission is being sought for painted core façade sign comprising the word ‘Brentford’ in vertical letters on the east side of the car park and two pedestrian ‘directional’ entrance signs into the car park.
Designs submitted with the application show the murals on the wall of the building replaced with a metal lattice-work outer structure over the exterior walls.
The car park mural, which was designed by Jo Hicks (better known as Hixxy), was commissioned by The Brentford Project to reflect Brentford’s own nature, waterways and heritage (including the signature bees of the Brentford football club). It was unveiled in January 2021 to improve the look of the concrete structure.
The mural includes a range of locally-found plants and wildlife, including marsh marigolds, a weeping willow tree, a kingfisher and a great crested grebe. Inspired by nearby Syon House, a neoclassical column intertwines with flowers referencing the rich history of the area.
