Council aiming to reduce congestion and increase safety
Ealing Council is inviting residents to give their views on plans to make Horn Lane and adjoining roads in Acton less congested and safer.
A range of proposals have been drawn up for Horn Lane corridor between Acton rail station and the A40.
Proposed improvements include:
- A new mini-roundabout at the junction of Noel Road and Horn Lane to reduce congestion in Noel Road.
- Raising the road surface at the junctions of Horn Lane with York Road, Noel Road and Leamington Park to slow vehicles down and make it safer for pedestrians.
- New road markings to reduce delays to southbound traffic that currently has to wait behind lorries turning right into the skip yard.
- Changes to parking restrictions in Noel Road and in the service road along Horn Lane to allow additional stop and shop parking. Motorists would be able to park for one hour for free in stop and shop bays and extend their stay for up to an additional two hours by paying by phone.
- Additional resident parking for approximately five vehicles in Horn Lane opposite the service road.
- New footway paving, removal of street clutter and one-way operation of the service road near Noel Road.
- Improvements to the footway paving at the shops near York Road.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for Transport and Environment, said: “We are committed to tackling congestion hot spots and this is one of the busiest junctions in the borough. Our proposed measures should make this part of Horn Lane safer for pedestrians and more efficient for drivers.
“We want to hear from as many people as possible- particularly those who use the junction on a regular basis.”
Residents can give their views by completing a questionnaire on the council’s website www.ealing.gov.uk/consultations by Friday 16 November 2012.
