Local fruit is collected and sold at Abundance Fruit Day
With so much fruit growing around SW19, Abundance Wimbledon don't like to see it wasted, so they collect it and pass it on.
It's then used to make jam, juice, puddings etc. Some goes to local charities, providing for the homeless and elderly including Merton & Morden Guild, the Faith in Action Drop-In Centre in Kingston Road, Wimbledon, foodbanks in Wimbledon and Putney and Merton Vision.
So if there is more fruit in your garden than you are likely to need, then get in touch with them. Last year, Abundance volunteers gathered more than 1,500 kilos of fruit despite a cold spring.
They have set up a number of local fruit picking groups, with each taking on responsibility for picking a few trees.
Their latest addition is a community orchard of six fruit trees at Haydons Road station.
