100th Birthday Party for Wormholt Park

New friends group organise two days of fun

The recently formed Friends of Wormholt Park are hosting birthday celebrations for the Park’s 100th birthday and are inviting everyone in the community to join in.

The Friends say they have two days of fun, games, children’s activities, history tours, and lots of sports. Here's the schedule:

Friday September 9: Schools Day 1pm – 3pm

180 children from seven local schools will be in the park learning about local history, bird watching with the BBC’s David Lindo, playing sports with QPR Football Club, and making birthday cards and bunting for the birthday wishing tree. They will also be joined by our local Mayor, Cllr Frances Stainton.

Saturday 10 September: Party in the Park 11am – 5pm

Admission is free. Come and enjoy food and market stalls, music, history tours, games and children’s activities, hanging birthday cards and best wishes on the birthday wishing tree, and lots of sports.

QPR Football Club is hosting a sports clinic and there will be handball, futsal and frisbee demonstrations, as well as yoga and free massages.

At 4pm, the Friends will be hosting Afternoon Tea, and are inviting people to join them to cut a giant cake, talk to some special guests, and sing happy birthday together.

The Friends are are also looking for volunteers to help on the day. If you would like to be of assistance, send Events Co ordinator, Lorraine an email at: wormholtpark@gmail.com.

Great prizes to win!

To celebrate the Park’s 100th birthday, the Friends are running three competition with some fabulous prizes. Bring your entries to the Party in the Park on Saturday Septembe 10r.

Let them eat cake! Bake a 100th birthday cake and show who is head chef

Who let the dogs out! Bring your pooch and let the judges pick the most obedient, and who looks most like their owner

Animal magic! Make an animal out of vegetables and bring your creation along to win a prize

The birthday party follows a successful volunteer day held in the park  on July 29, which saw members of the public take part in a whole host of tasks ranging from flower beds digging to sanding and painting of the railings surrounding the park and litter picking.

The event, organised by Hammersmith & Fulham Council and environmental charity Groundwork London also offered an opportunity for users of the Shepherd's Bush park to have their say on its future. The council says the information collected will form part of a Masterplan for the park which will inform a proposed future redevelopment.
