Wood Lane Railway Arches Now Open for Business
TfL creates retail and restaurant units in formerly derelict spaces
Transport for London is now offering local businesses a chance to hire a space within 31 railway arches near Wood Lane tube station.
TfL has launched a website called Wood Lane London Arches showing off the spaces, which it describes as
'new character retail,
restaurant and bar space
in West London'.
The site says: " Transport for London are regenerating 31 railway arches to create a destination for working, shopping, eating and socialising.
"Phase 1 is nearing completion and will provide over 10,000 sq ft of space across 13 railway arches with units ranging from 765 to 1,800 sq ft benefitting from A1/2/3/4 consent and opening hours of 7/8am to 12/1am. "
H&F Council gave the the go ahead for Transport for London’s plans in March, 2017. At the time, the designated arches beneath the Circle and Hammersmith & City tube lines - created in the 1860s - were inaccessible to the public, and filled with rubble, rubbish and debris.
Now, over two years later, the first units are ready for occupation.
The first phase includes 13 spaces, two already under offer and TfL says arches can be combined to create double units.
These are set to be followed by 12 arches closest to the A3320 West Cross Route which are due for completion in the early 2020s.
In addition to bringing the units back into use, TfL plans include creating new pedestrian passageways, as shown in these new pictures, to improve connectivity in the neighbourhood and introduce new cycle parking.
