Imperial Set Out Their Plans For Woodlands
Residents invited to see and comment on the proposals
Imperial College have announced three Open Days this month to give residents an opportunity to see their proposals for the Woodlands site on Wood Lane.
Imperial College London bought the site at 80 Wood Lane last September for £28million. Since then, they have been developing plans to create a new academic and research campus there – plans which involve almost completely demolishing the existing buildings.
Imperial say their plans include several benefits to the local community such as:
* an improved environment, including a new public open space at the heart of
the new campus
* pedestrian and cycle routes through the site
* a community centre
* new local retail uses, such as a convenience store, pharmacy, health
facilities, gym and cafe/restaurant
* new jobs
* a sustainable and lively centre of activity
Open Days will be held in the entrance lobby of the former BBC
Worldwide building, 80 Wood Lane, on the following dates:
Thursday 20th May, from 4.00pm - 8.00pm
Friday 21st May, from 12noon - 5.00pm
Saturday 22nd May, from 10.00am - 1.00pm
Members of Imperial's professional team will be on hand to answer any questions residents may have and listen to their views.
The upcoming Open Days follow on from the initial consultation which was held in February. There, Imperial outlined their initial ideas for developing a new academic campus, together
with quality affordable student accommodation, particularly for postgraduates.
"At the February Open Days many residents gave us their comments on the use of the site and their thoughts on the future of this currently derelict and unoccupied piece of land. We found these comments very helpful in shaping the proposals," say Imperial.
