Fund offering grants for local activities to be launched at Big Local Bash

A Community Chest Fund, providing small grants for activities in the White City area is being launched at the Big Local bash taking place at White City Community Centre today, February from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

The fund, provided by Hammersmith United Charities, will offer grants for activities led by and for the benefit of residents  of the Big Local area of Wormholt and White City, including Womholt, White City and Cleverly Estates, Batman Close and White City Close.

The fund is open to both individual residents (at least two) and groups and can pay for anything which local people want to do which will improve the quality of life in the area.

So, Hammersmith United Charities suggests, it might pay for a group of residents to take their children to the seaside or to pay the hall hire and instructor fees for someone to teach yoga to a group of mums or to pay the hire costs of a studio for a group of older people to record a cd or the instructor costs for a dog obedience class for the residents of one housing block or for a band for a community tea dance or for a tutor for a homework club for people about to take their GCSEs or a couple of weekends’ coaching for a dads’ football team!

Visitors to the Big Local Bash will also have the opportunity to meet the Big Local Community Manager Emma Morgan, who can offer advice on applying for grants from the Community Chest.

Big Local Wormholt and White City is one of 150 areas around England where residents are being offered the chance to use at least £1million to make a positive and lasting difference to their communities. 

Hammersmith United Charities provides housing for the elderly in Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush and to organisations working to prevent or relieve hardship or distress in the area of benefit and says it is particularly interested in working with groups with strong links to the communities they serve.
