Nicky Flynn is The Upper Room's New Chief Executive

Joining  charity at St Saviour's offering support to 'most disadvantaged individuals'

Shepherd's Bush charity The Upper Room charity The Upper Room has appointed Nicky Flynn, pictured above, as its new chief executive.

Nicky Flynn will now lead the long-established Wendell Park charity. Based in St Saviour’s Church, it provides free evening meals and assists ex-offenders and socially-excluded people find work.

She has taken over from Michael Buraimoh, who served in the role for two-and-a-half years.

Nicky, who previously worked for a national charity, has more than 20 years' experience as a senior manager in the third sector and in local authorities.

"I’m delighted to have been appointed to lead the work of The Upper Room," she says. "Its vision is about restoring self-confidence and offering support to the most disadvantaged individuals imaginable."

Nicky says she has been impressed by the charity’s track record of effective intervention since it was set up in 1990, with "a staff and volunteer base that are so committed and passionate about the work they do".

Her appointment has been welcomed by Cllr Sue Fennimore, Deputy Leader of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, who pledged the local authority’s support of the charity and its work in west London.

"The Upper Room is a valued charity, assisting many of the most socially excluded people in our community," she says. "I wish her well in her new role."

The Upper Room feeds and supports more than 150 people a day and helps them become economically independent and gain employment, with the assistance of a network of local partner organisations.

The new chief executive adds: "I am excited to work with staff and trustees alike to develop the charity so it can continue to be relevant, and offer respect, support and opportunities to the people who walk through its doors."
