Circle line extension opens in December

Shepherd's Bush will get a third Tube line next month, when the extension to the Circle line opens.

From Sunday December 13, a new section of the Circle line will run from Edgware Road to Hammersmith, stopping at Shepherd's Bush Market station.

The new-look Circle line, which some are dubbing the 'Lasso line', will run on the Hammersmith & City line's tracks.

In a change to the Circle line's traditional loop, trains travelling in a clockwise direction will now go from Hammersmith to Edgware Road, then right round the circle back to Edgware Road, where they will terminate.

Trains travelling anti-clockwise will start at Edgware Road, complete the full circle and then carry on to Hammersmith.

"Trains on the Circle line will become more reliable and evenly spaced. Other changes will depend on which part of the line you use," say Transport for London.

TfL say that between Hammersmith and Royal Oak, there will be a more frequent service, with trains every five minutes.

As Westbound trains will run to Hammersmith, passengers will have to change at Edgware Road to travel towards High Street Kensington or other stations further round the Circle line's loop.

"You might have to change trains at Edgware Road but this will often be step-free. It will also be easier to plan your journey as trains to and from particular stations will now always stop at the same platform," say Transport for London.

The Circle line, first completed in 1894, has always run without a fixed starting point, and links most of London’s national rail terminals.
