Major junction to be closed for two weeks
Two weeks of traffic misery are in store for Shepherd's Bush residents as a major junction closes for essential gas works.
The left-turn into Uxbridge Road from the western side of Shepherd's Bush Green will shut from November 4 to allow iron gas pipes to be replaced.
Motorists will be led on a diversion via Wood Lane, South Africa Road and Bloemfontein Road, from where they will be able to rejoin Uxbridge Road. Uxbridge Road itself will remain open to traffic in both directions, and road users will be able to access it via the side streets that connect it to Goldhawk Road.
The following bus routes will also be on diversion: 207, N207, 283, 260 and 607.
Hammersmith and Fulham cabinet member Cllr Nicholas Botterill said: “The council is very concerned about the impact these works will have on residents and businesses in the area and we had hoped that they would not be necessary.
“Unfortunately, the gas company has assured us that there is no alternative but to proceed with these works as they are essential to the long-term safety of residents, businesses and visitors.”
Both the North London Gas Alliance (NLGA), which is carrying out the work, and the Health and Safety Executive, say the work is vital.
For more information about the works call the NLGA on 0800 096 5678.
