Who is Standing in the Wormholt and White City By-election?
Meet the men who hope to get your vote on February 7
There are six candidates standing for election as councillor in Wormholt and White City ward on Thursday.
The by-election in the north of Shepherd's Bush has been caused by sad death of Councillor Jean Campbell in November.
The polling day for the by-election to fill the vacant seat on the council is Thursday February 7, 2013.
Here are the candidates hoping to be elected.
Max Schmid (Labour Party)
Max is 29 and lives in Parsons Green. He works for an environmental charity and
is a governor at Queensmill School for autistic children.
He says: " I am honoured to be chosen for this campaign. Jean Campbell was an inspiration and I will do all I can to live up to her legacy and to the high standards she set.
“Wormholt and White City is made up of many vibrant communities yet many of its residents face untold hardship because of the Conservatives’ hospital closures, because they’re closing Shepherd's Bush Police Station and cutting police numbers and because of the awful things they’re doing on housing.
" I will campaign to defend the people in this ward and work for better outcomes for all that live there. Jean Campbell wanted to see so much done in this area and it will be my privilege to carry on working to bring about the changes she cared for so much should I be elected."
Jamie McKittrick (Conservative Party)
Jamie, 31 studied economics at LSE and lives in West Kensington with his fiancée Liz. He is Vice-Chair of Governors at Normand Croft School and represented tenants at the Residential Property Tribunal while studying his second qualification in law.
He has already campaigned in support of the borough’s A&E departments, and sees other ward priorities as keeping up the fight on crime and anti-social behaviour, getting Wormholt Park to green-flag standard, further improving street cleanliness, and supporting local businesses and traders.
Jamie says: " I am delighted to be the Conservative Candidate for Wormholt and White City Ward. This Council is cutting tax for ordinary residents, reducing debt and improving services. Council Tax is now down 17% under H&F Conservatives, saving the average family over £650. The contrast with
Labour's record couldn’t be more stark.
“Wormholt is on the up. I want to make sure that hard-working residents keep getting the improvements they deserve.”
Chris Whittaker (Liberal Democrats)
Chris, 29, says he is the only mainstream candidate who lives in W12. Retail manager Chris, who is married to Catherine, a teacher, is active in the local Christian community, and has been a youth leader for the last 10 years.
He says: "I welcome this opportunity to stand up for my neighbours and my local community. The people of Wormholt & White City are being taken for granted by Labour and ignored altogether by the Conservatives. If elected I promise to put local residents first, and will focus in particular on improving facilities for families and young people such as Wormholt Park."
"Our pledges to introduce free nursery care and a £900 per head Pupil Premium have helped Wormholt & White City schools more than any other part of our borough, and our policy of raising tax allowances to £10,000 is helping more people into work."
Andrew Elston (UKIP)
Andrew, 48, says he was born and grew up in Fulham and now lives and works locally looking after his father as a carer. In the past he has worked as a teacher, public involvement worker and in policy research in care in the community.
He says: " Vote for UKIP and I will challenge the other parties in Council for you, in the way that only UKIP can.
" I will fight for priority to be given to local residents over the White City redevelopment. To help local shops and businesses I will fight for the introduction of 20 minute Free Parking Zones. I will fight for Police numbers to be maintained to help reduce crime that blights the lives of local people. I will fight for better local health provision so people do not have to travel across London for treatment.
"UKIP can make a difference .We are real challengers to the other parties. Vote for UKIP and join this challenge. A vote for UKIP can make them all sit up and take notice that our citizens can and will speak up."
There are two more candidates in the By-election - White City resident
Jeffrey Boateng, who stands as an independent, and British National Party's Andrew Donald, who lives in Fulham.
Polling stations open on February 7 at 7am and close at 10pm. The polling stations are:
- Wormholt Park Primary School, Bryony Road, W12 0SR
- Fatima Community Centre, Commonwealth Avenue, W12 7AU
- St Luke’s Church, Uxbridge Road, W12 0NS
Poll cards will be delivered between February 1 and 3. Poll cards are for information only and residents do not need their card to vote, as long as they are registered.
