Match raises thousands of pounds for Cystic Fibrosis Trust
A team of MPs and researchers won a hard fought victory over clebrities and sporting stars in the 2013 Nicky's Whisper Trophy Match edition of the annual fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust took place at Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road ground.
Crucial goals from Dave Hodges and Steve Parrat helped the team of MPs and researchers claim a hard-fought victory over an invitational celebrity side featuring Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme, DJ Spoony and Omid Djalili, among others.
A loud and supportive crowd was treated to a match that saw penalties, near misses, robust challenges and cartwheel celebrations.
Despite a final-minute penalty being awarded to the celebrities, in the end the MPs won the tie 7-5.
The crowd were also treated to a performance by singer Natalie Coyle.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust says the match raised over £37,000 which it will use in its work to beat cystic fibrosis, and to make a daily difference to the lives of those with the condition, and the people who care for them.
The Nicky's Whisper Challenge Trophy Football Match, sponsored by National Grid, is now in its tenth year. The teams are playing for the trophy in memory of Nicky West, who had cystic fibrosis and was a tireless ambassador for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
