Slipping into November after Halloween High Jinks |
Parkrunners tackle the autumn mud on Wormwood Scrubs
Well, well, well. The mud was back on Saturday, wasn't it?! Very slippy out there yet 54 runners bravely tackled the course and managed to reach the the funnel at the other end with success. However, tellingly, there were no personal bests. We were joined by 12 were first timers - I do hope we see you all again. First over the line this week was Thomas DURCAN (SM25-29) of Derwent AC Cockermouth in 18:43, Thomas' third time in 3 appearances. He was followed by Joseph WITHERS GREEN (SM20-24) (Unattached) in 20:11 and Jason WRIGHT (VM35-39) of Shropshire Shufflers, in 20:49. First female was Lynn WILSON (VW55-59) of Ealing, Southall & Middlesex AC, in 24:22, her first win in 8 appearances.Andrea BROUGHTON (VW50-54) of Thames Valley Harriers was second in 25:08 and Rebecca JOHNSTONE (SW30-34) of Ravenscourt Park Runners was third (23rd overall) over the line in 25:19. Current standing in the Men's annual points competition:
Current standing in the Women's annual points competition and it is really very tight at the top:
The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores: Thank you to our volunteers - Barbara and Simon MADDISON for braving the rain, run director Ben LE ROUGETEL, report writer Charlie LE ROUGETEL, Fraser BRYDSON for warming us up with teas and coffees, Hugh FRASER and Kirstie TEW for the set up (thank you for filling in some of holes, Hugh!), Marion BRYDSON, Nick MICHAEL and Robert FERGUSON! The rest of November is looking pretty bare on the volunteer roster, so if you can help us out, please let us know by emailing wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com Parkrun 230 - October 31 The day was pretty perfect for running – cool but not too cold, no breeze, and with the promise of some late-autumn sunshine later on. 56 runners turned out to tackle the two-and-a-bit laps of our part of the Scrubs, briefed by run director Debbie Peters-Mill, who warned of the seasonal onset of mud at the back of the course. In the event, it wasn’t too muddy – winter regulars will know that it can – and will – get much, much worse than that! The 31st of October was, of course, Halloween, and in honour of the occasion, we were all handed our finish tokens by a scary alien crab in a blood-stained coat, aka Lan-Lan Smith. We should deck out the entire volunteer team next year! The first runner over the line was Gideon Reid of Serpentine AC, in 18:53, followed by John Devoy of Fulham RC in 19:28, in his first run at the Scrubs. Third male was Paul Barnes, in a new PB of 19:37. Well done, guys! The highest age grade of the day was achieved by Dave Gardner, 72.86%, followed by Paul Barnes, 72.30% and Gideon Reid, 71.23%. In addition to Paul and Esme, new PBs were achieved by Madeleine Bailey and Aidan McDonagh. Well done, everyone! Also, congratulations to Scrubs regulars Simon Rubens and to Hugh Fraser, both of whom achieved their 50th parkrun today. Simon has run 49 of his 50 at the Scrubs and Hugh has run all 50 here. It’s still a very long way off yet, but the points tables are pretty tight at the top – there’s everything to play for! Female points table: Andrea Calderwood, 1,179 points Male points table: Happy running and see you next week! Andrea Wormwood Scrubs parkrun #229, 24 October
