Wormwood Scrubs Hosts 200th Parkrun |
Charlotte Le Rougetel reports on the anniversary celebrations It was a HUGE day for us at Wormwood Scrubs this week as we celebrated our 200th parkrun. We did it in the company of 37 wonderful runners and we did it backwards as we ran the usual parkrun route in reverse. We also celebrated Ben Le Rougetel's 50th parkrun – congratulations Ben! Sharing your parkrun milestone with the event's milestone was good fortune indeed as Kirstie Tew brought in delicious homemade chocolate and cinnamon macaroons and Debbie Peters-Mill some chocolate and blueberry muffins. Our runners were kind enough to make a donation for the cakes and we raised exactly £15 to go into the Wormwood Scrubs pot (hopefully that will pay for more cakes on our annual birthday in June.) First across the line this week was Thomas BOOTH (SM25-29) in a speedy 19:18, his second time in two appearances. He was followed by Matthieu PREVOT (VM35-39) of Clapham Chasers RC just 11 seconds later and our first female finisher wasn't far behind with Maire Neilson GORMAN (SW25-29) of Thames Valley Harriers flying across the line in 21:50. All three runners also achieved the best age grade scores of the week. We're just two months away from the end of the year and and very little has changed in the men's annual points competition though Riz does seem to be creeping further ahead each week: Current standing in the women's annual points competition and nothing bar the points has changed here either: Five runners managed to secure personal bests – congratulations Scott Brewer, Neil Davies, Stephen Hutchinson, Lan-Lan Smith and Louise Corser. A big thank you to our volunteers this week: timekeeper Andrea BROUGHTON, run report writer and tea maker Charlotte LE ROUGETEL, run director and cake donor Debbie PETERS-MILL, phtotographer Fran SANTOS, beverage master Fraser BRYDSON, great British baker Kirstie TEW who also set the course up with with Rizwan RAUF and Peter JORDAN who dismantled it all again in time for next week's run. The volunteer roster is looking a little bare over the next few weeks so if you would like to help out, please email us at wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com. Personal word from me – massive congratulations to Martin Gillies who ran the Liverpool Half Marathon on 29th March in just 81 minutes. I also ran the Liverpool Half – a great route, despite the torrential rain - and managed a PB too, nothing close to Martin's amazing achievement obviously! Also big congratulations to Kirstie Tew who secured a PB – 1:58 – at the Reading Half Marathon on 22nd March. Fantastic feat! Happy running and see you next Saturday. Charlie.
