Alongside hundreds of footballers raising money for Tackle Africa
Parkrun 158 - June 14
We were greeted by the unusual sight of hundreds of footballers taking part in a 24 hour football marathon to raise money for Tackle Africa when we arrived at Wormwood Scrubs on Saturday morning.
It’s a fantastic charity and you can find out more about it - and donate to help the cause - here.
After run director Debbie PETERS-MILL decided the huge catering tent sitting over our normal route wasn’t going to cause too many problems, our parkrunners set off to battle through the muggy heat on the first run of our new year.
Alessandro EUSEPI was first over the line in 19:46 - his second win in just three appearances - and Georgina SMEE was first female finisher in 24:21; her first win out of four runs.
This week there were 34 runners, including four first timers, and six runners achieved new Personal Bests - congratulations to all of you. A special mention, too, to Peter JORDAN who picked up his parkrun 50 tee shirt.
Many thanks again to our volunteers - Debbie PETERS-MILL, Fraser BRYDSON, Martin GILLIES, Rob FERGUSON, Riz RAUF, Peter JORDAN and Charlotte LE ROUGETEL, and also to Kirstie TEW and Marion BRYDSON who served the teas and coffees back in the club house.
We’re really short of volunteers for the next few weeks, so if you can help out, please do. parkrun wouldn’t be able to take place without volunteers. You can see the future roster here and you can volunteer by emailing wormwoodscrubshelpers@parkrun.com.
Have a great week and see you next Saturday.
