Ocado Opens New Delivery Depot in White City

Local residents invited to apply for jobs

The online supermarket Ocado has opened a new delivery depot in White City, creating 40 new jobs.

The depot, which opened on September 16, is located next to the Hammersmith and City Line railway line, close to the Royal Mail delivery office in Silver Road.

The 10,000 sq metre site will be a distribution 'spoke', sorting orders from Ocado's central Hatfield warehouse into local delivery vans and will handle around 9,000 orders per week.

Ocado said they chose White City for their new depot because the area offers good road links to the rest of London, which will be the hub's main delivery focus.

They also say they will be launching a recruitment drive for the depot this autumn, hoping to add eight drivers per week by Christmas. "Like Santa, we want to make sure deliveries across London are well and truly covered for Christmas. We're aiming to have 100 new drivers behind an Ocado wheel come the end of the year," Ocado's Head of Retail, Jon Rudoe said.

In a bid to recruit new drivers in White City, the company have hung giant advertising banners from the depot's new office.

“Ocado is growing massively - something like 25% year-on-year - and we're looking for great new drivers to ensure we maintain our excellent delivery times and customer service standards,” said a spokesperson.

The site has no employee parking and Ocado says it will be encouraging staff to commute by bike and public transport.
