Council consults residents on revised plans for sports facilities
The council is running a public consultation to find out how people feel about the park and how to improve it.
Plans to build an all-weather sport pitch on the site of the previous football pitch were originally granted planning permission in March 2014, but have been placed on hold while the council addresses concerns raised by the local community.
“Hammersmith Park is a highly valued green space and we want to ensure those people who live nearby and use it have a say in its future,” says Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.
The plans from operators PlayFootball, have been revised following residents’ concerns and include new sports facilities on the 1.2 hectare site off South Africa Road.
Under the new proposals the existing full-size all-weather football pitch, bowling green and two tennis courts would be replaced by 10 five-a-side pitches, two new tennis courts and a multi-games area, along with a pavilion with café and bar and 19 parking spaces.
More than 40 people attended a meeting this month, with representatives from local residents’ associations, community clubs and individual residents.
Among the issues raised by residents at the meeting was the space for car parking, concerns over the presence of a bar and the prices for using the facilities.
