Blaze strikes exactly a year after Baptist Church fire
A fire broke out at St. Saviour's Church in Cobbold Road in the early hours of Wednesday morning (July 29).
The fire brigade were called at around half past midnight and four fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Acton, Hammersmith and Chiswick arrived to extinguish the blaze at the two-storey building.
The fire caused some damage to the building’s first floor and one man was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.
The fire was under control by 0309 and the cause of the blaze is being investigated.
The St. Saviour's church incident took place exactly a year after the Baptist Church on Shepherd's Bush Road was destroyed when a fire, which started at an adjacent hostel for the homeless, swept through the building.
Fifteen fire engines and seventy five firefighters attended the scene on July 29 2008 to put out the blaze, which almost completely destroyed the church roof.
A year later, the church is still under scaffolding.
