Hugh Robertson puts best foot forward for charity StreetGames

Minister for Sport and the Olympics, Hugh Robertson, visited the Edwards Wood Estate on Thursday, October 14 to kick off a brand new charity.

The minister was joined by former Olympic athlete Diane Modahl to promote StreetGames, a groundbreaking national charity which develops "doorstep" sport with disadvantaged communities and makes it accessible to young people, regardless of their social circumstances.

In Hammersmith and Fulham, the scheme runs on both the Edward Woods and White City Estates with support from the council.

SteetGames also has another link to the borough, having just signed a three year sponsorship with Hammersmith-based Coca Cola Great Britain.

And to celebrate, the Minister enthusiastically joined in a keenly contested futsal game with local StreetGames participants.

StreetGames says that over the next three years, Coca-Cola Great Britain’s funding will allow it to deliver an improved sporting experience to over 110,000 young people throughout the country through:

• Helping StreetGames to grow its network of projects, creating more opportunities for young people
• A new programme of 300 Neighbourhood Festivals, directly touching around 46,000 people
• The first ever StreetGames Sport for Change Training Academy, equipping 100 tutors to deliver 11 specific new Street Games training courses to around 6,000 coaches
