Four W12 buildings throw open their doors
16 Ellingham Road
The central theme of this architect's own house is 'Connections & Illusions'. A transformation of a standard London terraced house into a contemporary home, expanding, 'tardis-like', in every direction, juxtaposing new with old, cleverly designed literally down to the door knobs using handles Matt Keeler designed in collaboration with Nick Grimshaw.
Opening Times: Sat - 10am-5pm. Regular architect-led tours every 20 minutes, pre-book ONLY through Open House. Last tour 4.40pm.
26 Rylett Crescent
A contemporary pheonix-like rebirth of a pretty but "broken" Victorian semi, located in the heart of a conservation area. A north-facing, modern, wrap-around garden extension sensitively but resolutely settles between two neighbouring extensions, and exploits every ray of available sunlight. Wide range of interesting contemporary finishes including polished concrete and recycled glass.
Opening Times: Sun - 10am-5pm. Regular architect-led tours every 20 mins, pre-book ONLY through Open House. Last tour 4.40pm.
GlaxoSmithKline Clinical Imaging Centre, Burlington Danes, DuCane Road
New clinical imaging centre - the result of a unique research collaboration between GlaxoSmithKline, Imperial College London and the Medical Research Centre. Artwork inside includes a series of photographs by Turner Prize nominated artists Zarina Bhimji and Catherine Yass.
