Art space hosts display of work by schoolchildren from Kenya's Kakuma Refugee Camp
Elephant West, the pioneering art and project space created within the disused petrol station at 62 Wood Lane is hosting Hands On by Lisa Milroy, a display of work for the interactive arts workshops between London and Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya.
In 2015, artist Lisa Milroy initiated Hands On Art Workshops and today, they offer a programme of practical art workshops for primary and secondary school students in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
As part of the programme, Lisa travels to Kakuma Refugee Camp annually to deliver Hands On workshops in person, working with UNHCR Education.
This exhibition provides a visual timeline of the Hands On Art Workshops from inception through to the present day and beyond as well as a beautiful display of original paintings and drawings made by the primary and secondary school students in the Kakuma Refugee Camp.
Hands On Art Workshops are facilitated by Vodafone Foundation and UNHCR’s Instant Network Schools programme and utilises digital video conference technology.
This month, Elephant West also hosts The Artcade retrogramming fun on Wednesday 12 February, the return of The Art of Slow Jams, with a launch party featuring an exhibition and live drawing inspired by music on 21 February and ongoing Winsor & Newton art classes.
Elephant also includes Fuel, a cafe and networking hub by day and DJing hotspot and bar by night.
