Jack Tizard School in South Africa Road has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted - again!

The White City school, which supports young people aged three to 19 with severe learning difficulties has been praised yet again for the quality of education and the support it continues to provides to families.

And this time, inspectors have praised improvements made since its last inspection in December 2014 - when it was also rated outstanding.

Those improvements include challenging the most able students more effectively by providing them with regular opportunities to apply skills to real-life situations. They also praised the school for working with parents and carers to reduce pupil absence, which has led to a 10% increase in attendance this year.

They were impressed by parents’ comments, one of which said "Staff know my child better than anyone else, including me", while another said "They really get my son".

The report laid out the praise point-by-point which included:

  • A strong focus on meeting pupils’ individual needs.
  • Exciting and motivating lessons where teachers have 'remarkable enthusiasm'
  • Highly effective work with speech and language therapists helping children express themselves well and develop their independence.
  • Detailed information analysis enables school leaders to target resources where they are most needed.
  • Leaders are very confident in their roles and benefit from a stable and skilled governing body.

"I am so proud of the whole school community,” said headteacher Francesca Smith."The hard work of the pupils, staff, therapists, health team, parents and governors was rightly affirmed. Everyone goes the extra mile for our pupils at Jack Tizard and the inspectors clearly recognised this."

Chair of governors Michele Rooney, said: "We are delighted with the outcome of our latest Ofsted inspection. It’s wonderful to have continued affirmation of exceptional practice in the education of our children, who have such complex disabilities."

"This report confirms what we, parents and staff already know but it’s great to see the school’s fantastic work officially recognised as outstanding once again," added Cllr Larry Culhane, Cabinet Member for Children and Education.

"We’re lucky to have such a wonderful team of talented and dedicated staff in our borough."
