Women in Westfield CCTV images traced by police

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Carole Waugh have arrested two women who were photographed on CCTV in Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush on Friday July 13.

Earlier this week, police circulated the CCTV images of the two women saying they would like to speak to them in connection with their investigation.

Bank cards belonging to Ms Waugh, who has been missing for nearly three months, had been used in the shopping centre.

The police statement said: " Police investigating the disappearance of Carole Waugh recently issued two CCTV images of women they would like to speak to in connection with the investigation. Both women have now been traced and arrested - they will be taken to police stations for questioning."

The women, aged  58 and 60 were taken to a separate police stations for questioning. The younger woman was subsequently released on bail while the other remains in custody. Police continue to appeal for help in tracing Ms Waugh, who has never gone missing before.

Carole Waugh, 50,of Harrowby Street W1 has not been seen since early May and concerns are growing for her welfare. The case is now being handled by the Homicide and Serious Crime team.

After Ms. Waugh was reported missing, police inquiries were made and have confirmed the last known sighting of her was in central London on 4 May.

An incident room has opened at Sutton under DCI John McFarlane (HSCC). DCI McFarlane said: "Ms. Waugh is a successful businesswoman, originally from the Durham area. She has worked in the Middle East and has maintained a home in central London for a number of years.

"Her disappearance is very out of character. Both her family and I are very concerned, and ask for the help of the public in tracing her.

"We appeal for anyone who has seen Ms. Waugh since early May, or has any information on her whereabouts, to come forward."

Six people have been arrested in connection with the enquiry and five have been bailed to return. One man remains in custody.

Police have also revealed this week that a man, posing as the missing woman's brother, had tried to raise money by selling her flat.
