Plans to turn a “dated” office block on Shepherd's Bush Road into an 189 room hotel have been given the green light.

The five-storey Brook House is set to be transformed into a hotel by 2020, creating more than 80 jobs.

Hammersmith and Fulham council’s planning committee heard on Tuesday (April 2) that the owner, Legal and General, will add two storeys to the building.

The site, 100 metres from Hammersmith tube station, will retain its ground floor units for shops or cafes.

The plans by Darling Associates architects show that its brickwork will be given a pale yellow finish, a mansard roof made of lead or zinc, and a green wall at its southern end.

Hotel giant Whitbread is named in the plans as a potential operator when it re-opens in 2020. They are the operators of the Premier Inn chain.

A report by council planning officers called the current building “dated and uninviting” and “not suitable for continued office use”.

Eighty per cent of the 88 jobs and internships that the scheme hopes to create will be reserved for local people, the planning committee heard.

The block will stand next to two grade II-listed buildings: Hammersmith Fire Station and Sacred Heart High School for girls. The developer has said no hotels will have views of the school.

The plans were unanimously approved by Labour and Conservative councillors.
