Ark Swift Primary to Become Part of New 'Ed City'
Public asked for views on plans to build school, nursery, youth centre and homes
Plans have been drawn up to transform Ark Swift Primary Academy in White City and nearby Harmony Nursery to create 'Ed City' - including a new school, nursery, adult education centre, youth centre, offices and affordable housing.
Now the developers are asking the public, including parents and carers for their views on the proposals.
If the scheme goes ahead, the school buildings in Australia Road would be rebuilt, along with the nearby adult community learning centre and Harmony Nursery. The Nursery would increase its current intake from 46 to 75 places.The new school and nursery buildings would be joined by a youth centre for eight to 19-year-olds, available to pupils during the day and to local young people at evenings, weekends and holidays.
A multi-use games area and an auditorium are also part of the plan, along with an expanded adult education centre, as well as office space for charities and social enterprise.
Affordable housing would be built for teachers and other key workers in White City.
Public consultation events will be held at White City Community Centre in India Way, between 4pm and 9pm on Friday 11 November, and at the school between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 12 November.
"These are major plans for Ark Swift and Harmony I’d encourage all residents, parents and carers to get involved with the consultation," says Cllr Sue Macmillan, H&F Cabinet Member for Children and Education.
