Shock Plan by Council to Rename Shepherd's Bush

"Rebranding" as Westfield to begin ahead of Olympics

Hammersmith and Fulham Council have made secret plans for Shepherd's Bush to be renamed Westfield.

The decision has been made after an international PR company was commissioned by the council to carry out research into attitudes in the business and financial world towards Westfield Shopping Centre and its location.

The company, Avril Amadan, subsequently advised the council that sales at the centre, particularly in the luxury section The Village with its numerous designer brands, were being damaged by their association with Shepherd's Bush.

And the PR company report said: " We strongly advise Hammersmith and Fulham council the time is right to rebrand the area."

The company also noted that the change of name would put a stop to Australians' insistence on using the term Shebu and would end the spate of double entendres around the name Shepherd's Bush proliferating on the internet.

Under the plan, Shepherd's Bush Green will become Westfield Green. It is understood that Shepherd's Bush Empire, Shepherd's Bush Market and the Bush Theatre are still deciding on their new names.

Avril Amadan also advised H&F Council that the rebranding should be carried out in 2011, to avoid confusion among the thousands of tourists expected to visit London for the Olympic Games.

Residents can expect to see street signs changing within weeks. The famous sheep on the subway signs on Shepherd's Bush roundabout are expected to first to face the chop.
