Westfield's Expansion Plans to be Decided on Thursday
Permission expected to be granted for work to begin this year
Hammersmith and Fulham's Planning Applications Committee will decide whether to approve revised outline plans for Westfield's extension to the north of the current site.
The committee's agenda, which you can read in full here says:
Outline planning permission is sought for the comprehensive redevelopment and
regeneration of the site to create a town centre mixed use retail and residential
led extension to the existing Westfield London shopping centre together with the
provision of leisure and community facilities, extensive areas of public realm, and
improved pedestrian routes through the site to allow connections to the wider
White City Opportunity Area (WCOA), the Royal Borough of Kensington and
Chelsea to the east and the immediate surrounding area.
Westfield hopes to create three separate zones – a retail quarter centred around John Lewis, a residential quarter around a green square, and a piazza around the existing, listed Dimco buildings that would be focus for small shops, leisure and community space. The Dimco piazza does not form part of the current planning application.
The officer recommendation is that " subject to there being no contrary
direction from the Mayor for London or the Secretary of State, that the Committee
resolve that the Executive Director of Transport and Technical Services be
authorised to determine the application and grant outline planning permission
upon the completion of a satisfactory legal agreement and subject to the planning
conditions.
Assuming this recommendation is accepted and planning approval granted, Westfield will begin building work this year with the department store and new shops open and trading in time for Christmas 2017.
Westfield says it is now seeking a residential developer to take on the construction of the new homes, and further detailed planning applications will follow once the developer has been chosen.
