Hundreds March Through Shepherd's Bush on Unity Day

Then hear speeches and entertainment from around the globe in Ravenscourt Park

 

Hammersmith and Fulham's second Unity Day saw hundreds of residents marching together from Shepherd's Bush Green to Ravenscourt Park on Sunday 11 June.

After launching in 2016, Unity Day is now an annual event in the borough, as people celebrate our borough's diversity andmake a stand against racism.

 

After walking together to the sound of cheers, drums and whistles, people crowded into the park to listen to speakers from community groups and enjoy music and dancing from around the world.

Speakers included Lord Alf Dubs (picured above) who campaigns to aid child refugees, as well as Wiktor Moszczynski of the Polish Social and Cultural Association, Tara Flood, chair of the Disabled People’s Commission and H&F Youth Mayor Hiba Al Moosawi.

There were also stalls selling food from all over the world, and showing off the work of charities and community groups across H&F.

The event took on extra significance this year, bringing people together after the recent terror attacks. H&F Council Leader Stephen Cowan led a minute’s silence for the victims of the attacks in Manchester and London Bridge.

"Whether it’s being against people because of what they look like, their race, their disability, their gender – we stand against it," said H&F Council Leader Stephen Cowan.

"We believe that by working together, by celebrating each other’s differences, by sharing love, by being one as a community, then we share a message of hope not just for now but for the future."

Unity Day was also the final event in this year's H&F ArtsFest which offered entertainment and cultural events across the borough from 3-11 June.
