Huge Acoustic Shed Being Installed on Tideway Tunnel Site

'Large structure' intended to contain noise and dust during works on Carnwath Road

The steel frame for an acoustic shed is being constructed on the west side of the Tideway Tunnel site in Carnwath Road on Fulham's riverside.

In its latest Works Update in August 2017, Tideway says: "The shed is a large structure: over 20 metres in height, approximately 80 metres long and 30 metres wide.

" It is intended to contain any noise, light and potential dust during our shaft excavation and future tunnelling works, minimising disturbance to the local community.!

Tideway, which is made up of a consortium of investors behind the massive tunnel project adds that while the shed is being installed over the next few weeks, several other activities will be taking place on site.

These will include:

Continuation of river wall works at west of site
Final deliveries of phase three offices, followed by office fit out
Continuation of piling works towards the west of site
Hoarding installation (northern side)

Tideway says:"In addition to the above we will also soon start our sheet piling works to the south centre of our site on the foreshore.

" Where possible, we will use the push piling method. However where this may prove difficult, we will have to use vibratory piling. If either of these methods are not possible, we may use impact (percussive) piling.

" If this is the case, we will work with and agree the methodology with the local authority and inform you in advance.

" The local authority has granted us permission to extend our working hours to complete our sheet piling works due to the restricted time periods for works on the tidal foreshore.

"These works are due to start at the end of August and will take approximately two months. Our hours for these works will be between Monday and Friday from 8am till 8pm and Saturday 8am till 4pm".

Last month, Tideway confirmed that the cabins which will be used as site offices - 90 in all - would be brought to the site by the river for around four weeks from early August.
