Suspicious Device At Brentford Block Of Flats Causes Major Disruption


Army bomb disposal experts found it was an alarm clock which looks like a bomb

A suspicious device was dealt with by Army Bomb disposal experts at a block of apartments near Brentford High Street and found to be an alarm clock, which looks like a bomb.

Road were sealed off near Kew Bridge and Brentford High Street after a cleaner raised the alarm upon finding a suspicious item at the Aitons House block of apartments at Pumphouse Crescent at 2.10pm (Friday June 24th).

Police treated it as a critical incident and at one stage they were poised to evacuate up to 8,000 local residents if advised to do so.

The public were warned to avoid the area while the disruption was going on.

As soon as the device was declared to be not dangerous, the police lifted the cordon and the flow of traffic improved. Delays were being reported for some time on Kew Bridge Road between Kew Green and the Chiswick roundabout.
