Keir Starmer Backs Ruth Cadbury As She Launches Election Campaign

Shadow Brexit Secretary shows support for Labour candidate

Vote Ruth Cadbury

Ruth Cadbury has launched her election campaign in the Brentford & Isleworth seat with support from Shadow Brexit Secretary Keir Starmer. Joined by local residents and activists, she promised to keep working hard to stand up for local residents.

The presence of a leading figure in the party at the launch could be an indication of the importance that Labour are placing on the contest. They held the seat with a comfortable majority last time out but the vote on 12 December is expected to be closer.

Speaking after the launch Ms Cadbury said; ‘‘It was great to be joined by Keir Starmer, and so many local residents for my campaign launch. It’s been a huge honour to work hard representing the area where I live, and where I’ve raised my family for the last 30 years.

"I’ve been working hard to stand up for the issues that matter to local people; whether that’s campaigning for more funding for our NHS, urging the Government to build more social housing, or fighting for urgent investment in our schools. After nearly a decade of tory austerity I know how tough life has been for so many people.

"I also know how worried people are about the impact that Brexit will have on our local area. Whether it’s the stripping away of our key rights at work, the threat it poses to our NHS or the devastating impact it will have on businesses I know we need to stand up against this disastrous tory brexit. That’s why I’ve been fighting to give you the final say over Brexit with a public vote.

"As the campaign kicks into gear I look forward to keep speaking to residents about my record of working hard, and standing up against years of Tory cuts to our community."

The full list of candidate for the seat are due to be declared later this week.
