Local MP Ruth Cadbury has spoken of the funding crisis that is affecting policing. ‘Ignore the spin-our police are still facing a funding crisis' was her response to last week's announcement by the government of an increase police funding.

The MP for Brentford & Isleworth said it was vital for the public to remember that police are still facing a funding crisis’.
Speaking after the announcement,

Ruth said; ‘This proves that the government still haven’t woken up to just how damaging police cuts have been for Londoners. The £1 billion in cuts that have been imposed on the Metropolitan Police have caused us to lose over 3,000 police officers across London, whilst crime rates have soared. The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick has said herself that these cuts have contributed to the rise in violent crime.

"I’ve seen the impact first-hand in Hounslow where we’ve lost over 80 police, and community support officers. If the Government truly want to make a difference they need to reverse all of the £1 billion cuts they’ve made to the Met Police, and reinvest in proper community policing. Anything less simply won’t be enough.’’

The Governments announcement about police funding from the Home Office, is said to be the largest increase in police funding since 2010.

The provisional police funding settlement of up to £14 billion for 2019 to 2020 is up to £970 million more than the previous year. The Home Office says it will enable the police to meet financial pressures and respond effectively to the changing and increasingly complex crimes they face.

Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) will receive: £7.8 billion in general government grants, which is £161 million more than the previous year as well as more money to spend locally (the council tax referendum threshold will be £24 for a Band D property – if PCCs ask households to contribute an extra £2 a month, this would generate around £510 million in additional funding)
