Nearly two thirds of lifeboat launches are funded by legacies
The RNLI is inviting supporters aged over 55 to get wills
written for free in London this month.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is taking part in Free
Wills Month , offering supporters aged over 55 the chance to write or
update their will for free at participating solicitors in several areas
around the UK, including London boroughs.
The Free Wills Month scheme gives people the chance to write or update
their will with participating solicitors and, if they wish, include a
gift to a charity, after taking care of loved ones.
Nearly two thirds of RNLI lifeboat launches are only made possible through
gifts in wills, and although people using the Free Wills Month service
are not obliged to leave a gift in their will to the RNLI, the charity
hopes people will consider doing so.
Jeremy Cronin, RNLI Legacy and In Memoriam Coordinator, said: ‘The RNLI
has helped those in peril at sea since 1824, and while nobody knows what
the future holds, we do know that the sea will always be dangerously unpredictable.
‘Six out of every ten RNLI lifeboat launches are only possible due to
gifts left in wills, which shows donations – however large or small –
are vital for helping our lifeboat crews and lifeguards continue saving
lives at sea. We are so grateful to everyone who leaves a gift to the
RNLI in their will.’
