Hammersmith and Fulham Marks Remembrance Day on Sunday

With Two Parades to War Memorials in Fulham and Shepherd's Bush

Ceremonies will be held in our borough on Sunday November 13 to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought in the two world wars and every conflict since.

A two minute's silence will be held at 11am, after separate parades in the north and south of the borough to mark Remembrance Sunday. The silence marks the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, during World War One, when the guns of Europe fell silent.

"The sacrifices made by people in our armed forces in our two world wars are impossible to comprehend," said H&F’s Mayor, Cllr Mercy Umeh.

"We owe a massive debt to them and to all British servicemen who bravely put their lives in danger to help keep us safe across the world."

Shepherd's Bush War Memorial

The march will begin at Sulgrave Road at 10.15am before the service at the war memorial in Shepherd's Bush Green led by Father Richard Nesbitt, parish priest at Our Lady of Fatima catholic church and Rev Simon Collington of St Simon’s Church, Shepherd's Bush. Both the march and the service will be attended by the mayor.

After the service there will be a march past along Shepherd's Bush Road where the mayor will take the salute before the procession disbands in Westwick Gardens.

Fulham War Memorial

The procession will start at Parsons Green and will be led by H&F’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Daryl Brown. It will form at 10.20am and march along New Kings Road to the war memorial in Vicarage Garden by All Saints Church. The service will be led by Reverend Penny Seabrook, associate vicar of All Saints Church.

It will be followed by a march across the High Street to Fulham House where a saluting dais will be erected.

Residents are welcome to take part in just the services by going to either Shepherd's Bush Green or Vicarage Gardens before 11am when the services will begin with a minute’s silence.

Volunteers are selling poppies from 181 King Street, Hammersmith, again this year, so pop in and show your support.
