Stamford Brook home on the market for nearly £3 million
The Grade II listed former home of artist Lucien Pissarro on the borders of Shepherd's Bush and Chiswick, is up for sale for the first time in over a century.
The five-bedroom property in Stamford Brook is still in the ownership of his descendants today, years after the artist’s death in 1944. It is on the market with Finlay Brewer for £2.95 million.
Built in 1760 and on the market for the first time in 116 years, the home, called The Brook, is on offer with a purpose-built artist’s studio.
In Pissarro's lifetime, he worked with contemporaries such as Paul Signac and Vincent Van Gogh, who dedicated his 1887 painting, Basket of Apples, to Pissarro.
The artist moved to The Brook in 1902 and created many artworks here, including The Brook, Sunny Weather. Pissarro was also an engraver and publisher and he founded the Eragny Press in 1894. A separate building was constructed to house the printing press, which still sits next to the property but is now part of the neighbour’s land.
Commemorated with a blue plaque in 1976 to mark the life and work of Pissarro, the 2,800 sq ft home is arranged over two floors with a double reception room, study, two bathrooms, utility/shower room and open-plan kitchen, breakfast and dining room.
Exuding a country charm, the property has many period features such as original fireplaces and wooden beams throughout.
The outside highlights include off-street parking, a summer house and a 7,000-sq-ft garden. Plants fill the front garden and surround the central path.
