Meadow House Cancer Hospice, based in the grounds of Ealing Hospital since it was opened by newsreader Martin Lewis in 1987, celebrated its 30th anniversary this week.

Ealing Central and Acton MP Dr Rupa Huq, the Mayor and Mayoress of Ealing, Simon and Val Woodroofe, veteran broadcaster and Ealing resident John Sergeant of Strictly Come Dancing fame as well as Sir Martin, (vice-president of Hospice UK), were all in attendance.

Guests were treated to a performance of numbers from by the musical Rent from The Meadow House choir and a piano recital from clinician Dr Hugh Mather who has a room named after him at Ealing Hospital.

Speeches from NW London NHS’s Dame Jacqueline Docherty and Meadow House’s Founder Maria Brennan reminded those present of how the facility provides specialist palliative care to Ealing and Hounslow boroughs and how staff help each patient to maximise the benefits of treatment with dignity and support their families to cope as well as possible with the effects of cancer.

Rupa Huq MP said “I wanted to celebrate the fantastic work of Meadow House which will always stay in my memory as my late father was looked after by the team. Given the shrinking number of services available at Ealing hospital it’s absolutely essential that we hold on to this unique service. Here’s to at least another 30 more years.”
