The Stirling Road recycling centre will, after all, reopen this Monday (18 May).

In its original announcement Ealing Council were only able to confirm that their site in Greenford would be operating and council leader Julian Bell said they were ‘looking at ways’ to reopen the South Acton tip.

Now both the council tips at Greenford Road and Stirling Road will be open from 8am to 4pm every day, but users are told not to arrive at the centres after 3.30pm.

The council are advising residents only to visit the tips if it is essential, and plans are in place to manage queues expected throughout the day.

Social distancing measures will be in place to stop the spread of coronavirus, and there will be no pedestrian access.

Councillor Mik Sabiers, the council’s environment lead, said: “We would like to thank residents for their continued support during these difficult times. We continue to ask for their support as the lockdown starts to ease and the Greenford and Acton depots reopen. Please only make a visit if it is absolutely necessary.

”Staff will be on hand to give direction on how the site will be operating, and to limit cars entering. We would appreciate patience from anyone needing to visit.”

To reduce the risk of spreading the disease at the site, the number of cars and time allowed for visits will be limited.

Users are asked to separate out recycling materials before arriving at the tip to save time, and only one adult is allowed to leave each car when on site. No help will be given for handling heavy items, and those who cannot lift rubbish are asked to contact the council’s bulky waste collection service which is still operating.

Greenford and Acton Re-use and Recycling Centres accept domestic refuse and recycling free of charge but charges may apply for construction, demolition or excavation waste or trade/commercial waste. Stirling Road is for residential waste only.

Neighbourhood recycling sites can be found spread across the borough, and will collect a range of items. You can use our handy search tool to find out where your nearest neighbourhood recycling site is.

Ealing residents are also able to use Space Waye, Reuse and Recycling Centre North Feltham Trading Estate, Pier Road, Feltham, TW14 0TH.
