Artists' colony in Brentford invite public to see their work
A colony of artists based at Johnsons Island, near Brentford, is mounting a public exhibition from Friday 6th June 5-9 pm land over the weekend, Sat 6th and 7th (11-6pm).
The creative community is based on Johnson’s Island set on the Grand Union Canal, between Kew Gardens and Syon Park. Hidden away for most of the year, the mixture of painters, sculptors, jewellers and makers will throw open the doors to their studios and invite the public inside. There is also a gallery on site which will be showcasing the artists’ works.
This is an opportunity to enjoy the quirky surroundings, the atmosphere and the wildlife that helps inspire their work, as well as buy or commission unique original artworks directly from the artists in their working environment. Newcomers may be surprised to discover the quality and variety of creative endeavour tucked away from the bustle of the High Street in a serene canalside setting.
The studios are set within an eccentric collection of buildings; some dating back to the heyday of the canal network and others more akin to a beach hut on stilts. The Island is formed by a loop in the River Brent and the Grand Union Canal and is accessible via a footbridge from Catherine Wheel Road.
