Hounslow Greens out campaigning
November 21, 2025
The Green Party in Hounslow will launch its 2026 council election campaign on Thursday 27 November, with the latest polls suggesting that it has a chance of adding to its single seat in the borough.
The campaign launch event will take place at Brentford Free Church, beginning with refreshments at 6:45pm and followed by a keynote address from Caroline Russell, Leader of the Green Party in the London Assembly. The evening will also feature remarks from Councillor Guy Lambert, who recently left Labour to join the Greens, and introductions from all four Green candidates standing in Brentford West and Syon & Brentford Lock.
Recent polling and by-election results suggest that the party may be poised to make gains in 2026. According to the latest council by-election scorecard compiled by political analyst Mark Pack, the Green Party has made a net gain of five seats from Labour across London since May 2025.
The Green Party’s national polling average surged to its highest ever level recent months, and internal canvassing in Brentford West and Syon suggests strong support among younger voters, renters, and those concerned about climate resilience and housing development. The party’s local website highlights regular resident surveys and opposition to Heathrow expansion as key mobilising issues.
Cllr Lambert has pledged to continue his work on housing, small business support, and the cleansing of local waterways if he retains his Brentford West seat. He will be joined by Rashid Wahab, a teacher and corporate professional who aims to empower young people and protect community services.
In Syon and Brentford Lock, Namaa al-Mahdi and Vikram Jain will stand as Green candidates. Namaa, a trade union treasurer and equalities officer, brings a platform focused on workers’ rights, biodiversity, and anti-austerity activism. Vikram, a public policy postgraduate and former Labour vice president in Southampton, says he joined the Greens due to disillusionment with Labour’s national leadership.
“I’ve always been sympathetic to the Green Party, which has a vital role in local and city-level politics as a force for good as well as for accountability,” Vikram said.
The campaign launch will conclude with an audience Q&A, offering residents a chance to meet candidates, share concerns, and learn more about the Green Party’s vision for Hounslow. The event is open to all and marks the beginning of a six-month campaign leading up to the Hounslow Council elections on 7 May 2026.
