The next lecture will have speaker Phil Emery
The subject of Hounslow and District Society's next lecture on Tuesday, October 30th, is; 'In The Footsteps of Thomas Hardy; Excavations at St. Pancras Burial Ground 2002-2003'.
The lecture will be held at the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow at 8pm.
The speaker is Phil Emery, Associate-Cultural Heritage and Archaeology, who has previously addressed the Society on the excavations at Fulham Palace.
The illustrated talk will focus on the excavations for St. Pancras International, the London terminus of High Speed 1. The burial ground here was in use from 1792 until 1854 and the initial disturbance was due to the construction of the Midland Railway, subsequently developed for the Eurostar Terminus. Some 715 burials were analysed, revealing a very heterogeneous population including refugees from the French Revolution, three aristocrats and two prelates, as well as people in poverty.
Mr. Emery's book will be on sale at £23.75 instead of the full price of £27.95. The lecture will provide a remarkable insight into the history of St. Pancras, linking in with the Society's talk on, and visits to, St. Pancras. Everyone is welcome.
