Hogarth House is the subject of Hounslow and District History Society’s first lecture of 2013 at the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow on Tuesday 29 January 2013 at 8pm. The speaker is Val Bott, Chairman of the William Hogarth Trust as well as a Freelance Museum Curator and Historian.

Ms Bott, in her illustrated talk, will recount the history of Hogarth’s House and its many residents since it was built in 1715. She co-ordinated the recent refurbishment and redisplay, helped by her 10 years of research which led to the publication in 2012 of the book “Hogarth’s House”, which will be on sale at the event.

The Hogarths acquired the house in 1749 as a second home but the female members of the family continued to use it after Hogarth’s death in 1764 until 1808. Residents whom Val will describe include two interesting clergymen, a Victorian melodramatic actor and nursery gardeners, before the house became a museum in 1904. Newcomers to the History Society are welcome.
