The housing crisis has hit Hounslow and the rest of London
April 25, 2025
Hounslow Council is in the process of developing a new housing strategy for the borough for the next five years.
It is asking for the views of local residents, businesses and other organisation on how it can deal with the housing crisis and meet the needs of people living in the area.
The shortage of housing in Hounslow and across London is worsening with data recently released by the government showing 336,366 households on London local authority waiting lists for social housing in 2024 – a 32% increase since 2014.
This means there is a chronic shortage of affordable, high quality, and secure housing in the borough. The housing strategy aims to target the limited resources to where they will have the most effect.
The Council has identified five priorities and is seeking feedback on these areas.
Councillor Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Housing Management and Homelessness at Hounslow Council said,“This Housing Strategy is crucial for Hounslow’s future. Years of reductions in government funding, high inflation, and increasing demand for services have put severe pressure on council budgets. We want to ensure that the strategy reflects the needs of our residents and communities, and this consultation is the opportunity for people to have their say. So, whether you are a local resident, business, or one of our partners, we want to hear from you.”

Residents that require a paper copy, large print, easy read, or require a translation can email engage@hounslow.gov.uk.
The closing date for the consultation is Wednesday 4 June 2025.
