Parents of Truant Teenagers Face £50 Fines

Figures reveal numbers high numbers in Chiswick and Brentford

Figures revealed this week show that there are more teenager truants in Brentford and Chiswick than in other parts of the borough.

According to Hounslow Council 415 parents received letters threatening £50 if they fail to ensure their children attend school. 136 of these were sent to families living in Brentford and Chiswick.

The fixed penalty notices are part of the council’s new raft of measures to deal with truancy. "Our policy is to initially use them for repeated unauthorised term time leave absences,” a council spokesman said of the fines.

"So far we have not had to take action beyond this, but we are monitoring the attendance of the children of the 415 parents who have received the warning letters."

Chiswick and Brentford have came second only to Hounslow in terms of numbers of letters sent but still had almost three times the numbers for Feltham, Bedfont and Hanworth.
