Plans For Local Police Stations Put On Ice


Refurbishments postponed due to economic downturn

The collapse of Icelandic banks and the property slump have been cited reasons why planned refurbishments of local Police stations have been put on hold.

"The Metropolitan Police Authority did have savings in Iceland and has been affected by the recent economic problems which will mean a squeeze on resources," Chief Superindent David Bilson told a recent Police Consultative Group meeting.

"Locally this means plans to overhaul our various premises will be put on hold for at least the next three to five years."

However, he insisted that there had been not cuts in resources and residents would “continue to receive the same level of service,"
