Chiswick Killing Fugitive Apprehended

Daniel Russell disappeared shortly after Michael Campbell's death

Police have arrested Daniel Russell the man at the centre of the dispute that led to the death of Michael Campbell.

Russell never faced trail as police were unable to apprehend him as he was believed to have fled the country. He has appeared at Feltham Magistrates' Court charged with violent disorder.

Gym Instructor Carl Gordon, aged 19, social worker Kenneth Alexander, aged 20, and office worker David Powlett aged 22 were jailed for murder at the Old Bailey earlier this year.

Mr. Campbell was killed on Welstead Way in Chiswick and his friend Ishmael Chambers was seriously wounded following a dispute over a vandalised car in April 2005.

The court had heard that there had been a long-running dispute between Russell, who was an associate of the convicted men, and Mr Chambers. Russell was a former resident of Welstead Way.

On April 3rd 2005, Russell along with two of the convicted men approached Mr. Chambers who was walking on Chiswick High Road with his girlfriend. An altercation ensued and the police were called to the scene but no arrests were made. Mr. Chambers along with other associates including Mr. Campbell found the men who were involved in the argument on the High Road and attacked their parked car.

After this incident Carl Gordon recruited Kenneth Alexander and David Powlett to return to Welstead Way where they met Mr Chambers and Mr Campbell and a third person. In the ensuing fight Michael Campbell was stabbed in the back. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly after his arrival. Mr Chambers was also taken to the hospital having been kicked and stabbed. He was in a critical condition but survived.
