Hounslow Council held its second Opportunity Hounslow Conference, bringing together stakeholders from across business, education, development, and civic sectors to discuss the borough’s long-term growth strategy. The event, titled Building the Golden Mile of Tomorrow, was hosted in partnership with the University of West London at its Paragon Building in Brentford on 11 September.
Timed to coincide with the centenary of the Golden Mile industrial corridor, the conference marked one year since the launch of the Opportunity Hounslow Business Case for Growth. Discussions focused on regeneration, infrastructure, and economic inclusion, with several announcements made that are expected to shape planning and investment across the borough.
Among the key developments was the launch of a new place brand for Hounslow, intended to reflect the borough’s international connections, local identity, and strategic ambitions. In addition, the council announced the formation of the Golden Mile Developers and Business Forum—a new body that will convene landowners, developers, and major employers such as Sky to coordinate future development across the 450-acre corridor.
Panel discussions and workshops featured contributions from organisations including Areli, Ballymore, Transport for London, Brentford FC, Hadley Property Group, Thinking Place, Chiswick House & Gardens, and the West London Chamber of Commerce. Topics included the future of London’s media sector, the role of placemaking in urban development, and transport infrastructure priorities such as the West London Orbital and the A4 corridor.
Speakers included Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of Hounslow Council; Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development; and Professor Peter John CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University of West London. Each emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration in delivering sustainable growth and improving access to housing, employment, and education.
The event also saw the launch of two publications by the University of West London: Empowering Feltham: A New Chapter and Partner with The Career University, outlining the institution’s role in supporting skills development and community engagement.
The Opportunity Hounslow initiative continues to serve as a platform for strategic dialogue around regeneration, with a focus on aligning public and private investment to meet the borough’s long-term needs.
