Hounslow Council's Multimillion Pound New Headquarters Opens
All council activities will be at Hounslow House from Monday
Hounslow House, the new home of Hounslow Council will be opened next Monday. From April 15 all council activities will be housed in the new premises at 7, Bath Road at the western end of Hounslow High Street.
The Civic Centre, previous home of Hounslow Council for fifty years on Lampton Road, will be turned into 940 new housing units.
The new civic centre building will be smaller and more cost-efficient than the current civic centre, incorporating Hounslow library and cafe, and located at Bell Square, Bath Road, just west of Hounslow High Street. Hounslow Clinical Commissioning Group – CCG) and police partners will also be based there. New Adult Education classrooms will also be available at the new site.
Hounslow House is a seven-storey building designed to be a hub for the local community. As well as accommodating all of the council’s office staff and civic meeting rooms, it will feature a “state-of-the-art” library on the first floor, exhibition space and café.
Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of the Council, said: “There’s definitely some sadness at leaving what has been the home of the Council for almost 50 years, but at the same time, we’re excited to be moving to our new home.“The Civic Centre is no longer fit for purpose and has high running costs, so downsizing to a smaller building will also save money in the long term, as well as allowing the site to be used for housing for local residents.”
Building works continue at the Civic Centre on Lampton Road. The first phase of the Notting Hill Genesis housing development has already been built just in front of the Civic Centre, and residents started moving in from December 2018. Of the entire scheme of 941 units, 50 per cent will be social housing at affordable rents
